His legacy
What happened

In July 2003 he was in Guatamala when he got terrible stomach ache (he tought) and on his return in August he was admitted to hospital where they did tests and discovered that he had colon cancer.

Doctors told me, his wife, to prepare myself to have him for only 4 more months.  What they did not know was how determined and strong willed he was and that he was not going anywhere until he was finished with his goal in life.

Needless to say, the doctors was wrong and I had him for another 3 and a half years, in which he had 7 different chemos, never gave up, never lost his hair.  He planned, established, lectured and managed the Academy of Sound Engineering campus which he started in January 2006, for a full year before he went to be with the Lord

A real example of what can be done if you are determined to do something and you have God on your side.

Husband and Father
I can say to anyone who is about to get married, If you are half as happy as I was in my marriage to this great man, you will be very happy.  To most of the world he was just somebody but to me he was the world and I thank God for the priviledge to have been his wife for more than 36 years.

If I look at my 3 boys today I can only say "What a Dad" to have built such strong charaters in his boys"  He loved each one of them and was forever telling people of how good Abrie is with his IT business and what a good Sound Engineer Cristo is or what a wonderful voice George jnr has.

His granddaughters were the apple of his eye and he had a special place in his heart for each of them, no wonder they loved him so much. Then Joshua came into our lives at the age of 2 and crept right into Oupa's heart.

My sweetheart I don't know how I am going to get along without you but thank you for teaching me to be an independant woman and most of all for teaching me what love really is.  I miss you more than anybody can ever imagine.  I will NEVER forget you.
His career as a sound engineer

1997 - Jan 2007 when he died

CEO, Academy of Sound Engineering
George is the founder of Academy of Sound Engineering. He started his sound career at the SABC in 1963. He later worked at Hammerstein Radio and became foreman of the service department, which led to him starting his own company, called Radio Vision, in 1976. In later years with Hattech he focused more on Sound Engineering through acoustical design, sound engineering and digital support.
In 1996 George approached Nick Matzukis from Allenby campus (who himself later joined ASE) with a Sound Engineering course he wrote, as the industry required a more indepth, pratical and hands-on approach to Sound Engineering Education. They accepted the proposal and the course grew to be the largest Sound Engineering Diploma Course in the country and is currently still running in the Damelin Group.
Over a period of 8 years, the course extended to 7 of the campuses across South Africa and over 4000 students completed the course so far. Many of them entered the world of sound in various companies, or became self supported freelance sound engineers. Now based in our new Campus within the SABC building we offer courses in sound engineering from part time certificates to full time diplomas. We are also the only accredited Digidesign ProTools accredited training centre in Africa.
