His career as a sound engineer 1997 - Jan 2007 when he died
CEO, Academy of Sound Engineering George is the founder of Academy of Sound Engineering. He started his sound career at the SABC in 1963. He later worked at Hammerstein Radio and became foreman of the service department, which led to him starting his own company, called Radio Vision, in 1976. In later years with Hattech he focused more on Sound Engineering through acoustical design, sound engineering and digital support. In 1996 George approached Nick Matzukis from Allenby campus (who himself later joined ASE) with a Sound Engineering course he wrote, as the industry required a more indepth, pratical and hands-on approach to Sound Engineering Education. They accepted the proposal and the course grew to be the largest Sound Engineering Diploma Course in the country and is currently still running in the Damelin Group. Over a period of 8 years, the course extended to 7 of the campuses across South Africa and over 4000 students completed the course so far. Many of them entered the world of sound in various companies, or became self supported freelance sound engineers. Now based in our new Campus within the SABC building we offer courses in sound engineering from part time certificates to full time diplomas.
